With over 27 years as a youth advocate, and triumphant survivor of childhood sexual abuse she directs retreats for adult
survivors who are discerning a course for their journey towards healing from childhood trauma. She offers educational workshops and interactive presentations for the prevention of childhood
sexual abuse for corporations and organizations.
Denise will discuss with us her passion; helping women and children heal after abuse. As a Women's group, I hope you will agree that this is a topic that must be discussed -to offer encouragement to those who are in need, yet reluctant to receiving help due to fear and shame.
As this is - an emotional discussion for some, we understand if you decide not to attend ~but understand that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we care about you and whenever you are ready -we are here for you.
At this WOTW -Gettysburg we will meet at Garibaldi's (across from the Wyndham, on the same Gateway Gettysburg property next to Old Eagle Grill) on October 22, 2009 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Admission is $5.00 per person, and Chef Claude Rodier will have some treats for us to enjoy (Hors d' oeuvres and Cash Bar).
We will also have the opportunity to mix, mingle and network.
I look forward to seeing you at the next Women on Their Way -Gettysburg Network.

Where did the Last 2 Months Go?
In August we received a good...umh, great...umh, lets just say umhhhhhh, because we received an excellent talk from Alice Anderson. Alice is the Area 43 Governor of Toastmasters International and she discussed the intricate parts of a successful speech and some countable mistakes we make over and over again...such as falling into the pit of "UMHHHHHs".
The local Toastmasters meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month at the Gettysburg Library at 6:30pm. For more information please go to www.gatc.freetoasthost.com.
Thank you Alice for giving your time and thank you Karen of Going Postal and Melissa of Planned Parenthood for your assistance in bringing Alice to us. You all are great Gems!
Now in September -we brought back the One Minute Commercial, and Alice Anderson to my surprise joined us again and counted my 13 or more Umhs... WOW just 13? We also had some new ladies come out and we really enjoyed getting to know each other. We also spent some time discussing how lucrative some of our contacts have been since we started meeting, partnerships, books and more... Yes, if you didn't make it you don't know what you missed.
Next month our speaker will be....Stay tuned ~See the Next Blog:) Carol

Let's Talk - Part 2 with Jennifer LeVan
Do you know Jennifer Levan … let me count the ways ~
Some of you may not have had the pleasure, but quite a few of you have come to know her because she is the vibrant co-owner of Battlefield Harley-Davidson and Just Jennifer Art Gallery, or because she is the recipient of numerous community and corporate awards, or you may recognize her face from watching ACTV as she is the hostess of her own show, or is that you worked with her in supporting so many local and national organizations in support of children, women, families, arts, education, civil rights, and more; that I felt tremendously guilty - not being able to list them all.
Well, on Thursday, June 25, 2009 you will have an opportunity to get to know this Business Woman -Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, and Family Women – and what makes her tick.

Marizol Jimenez
Marizol Jimenez was born in Santiago, Chile but raised in the U.S, and proud to admit she is “Latina.” A student at HACC-Gettysburg since the fall of 2004, attending college has always been a dream of Marizol, but because of life’s challenges it appeared to be impossible to accomplish until now. She became V.P for the Multicultural Club for the year 2004-2005 and was president for the year 2005-2006. Once becoming employed by HACC, she became the advisor to the club. Marizol tutors in person, or via phone/email to our Latino students throughout my classes. Jimenez has translated for the HACC newspaper “The Creative Cannon” and our Multicultural page. On February 20, 2007 she organized and facilitated our bilingual dinner for Latino students who were interested in working in a job where they would be able to use their bilingual skills through a partnership with community businesses. Marizol Jimenez is the Bilingual Support Technician at Harrisburg Area Community College-Gettysburg. Jimenez will be facilitating the Latino Culture Sensitivity Summit 2009, through The Hanover Hispanic Center and YWCA. She assists with recruitment, planned events for numerous organizations, educational programs, events to reflect and advance diversity. On February 18, 2009 Marizol was appointed by Governor Ed Rendell to serve a two-year term on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs (GACLA). Jimenez will represent Adams and Franklin Counties, as well as Hanover, on the committee that serves as a voice for the Latino community. In addition, “mi familia” has made it ever more evident on how important they are in her life, Marizol proudly states that her three wonderful daughters are the source of her inspiration to better herself. “Without them I could not have done any of this.” Mi familia also includes those mentors, role models that saw in her what she never did, her inspiration, her purpose to give others the opportunity to overcome challenges in their life as I did. Her ultimate goal is to be in a position were she is able to assist other Latinos with their own dreams and possibilities in life.

MEET OUR SPEAKER
BIOGRAPHY:
Born on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, Dr. Marijka Grey took a winding road to her current position as the lead physician at Gettysburg Adult Medicine and Wellspan Health’s Ambulatory Informatics Specialist – or as her office puts it “Computer Geek”. She did her undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware, earning a degree in both English and Biology while running her own fledgling Caribbean T-shirt company. She also managed, at that time, to co-found a thriving dance company that still exists today. Having completed medical school at the University of Maryland, she underwent her residency training at York Hospital, eventually serving as Chief Resident in their Internal Medicine residency program. A board-certified, practicing internist in the historic town of Gettysburg, PA, she is also heavily involved with Wellspan Health’s implementation of an integrated Wellspan-wide electronic health record system throughout their over 40 different ambulatory sites in Adams & York County Pennsylvania, as well as northern MD. Passionate about community health and especially women’s health, she not only speaks regionally on Women’s Health Topics and will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Gettysburg Women’s Health Conference.

First Mixer Outcome...
I sincerely thank all who were in attendance, especially those of you who brought others. The conversations that I enjoyed hearing last night were those conversations discussing how one business can help another, business development workshops and mentor(s) programs. This is what it's all about, connecting to other women who are positive and ready for growth.
I will be emailing you to gain authorization to add you to a network list to share with everyone - which will require you to respond, before I place anything in public view. Also, please contact me -if you have a subject matter for the blog or idea for a workshop, etc. -I welcome your voice of experience.
Again, thank you for coming out, don't forget to follow up on contacts you made last night and I will let you know the results of the polls - in order plan future events. Expect pictures soon!
Best regards,
Carol
